What is an SAE?
​SAE is defined as experiental service and/or work-based learning through the implementation of a supervised agricultural experience program. There are both foundational and immersion SAEs for students to choose. Below are definitions for every type of SAE available.

Foundational:
Foundational SAE can be conducted by all students in the agriculture education program. This SAE has five component areas: Career Exploration; Employability Skills and College Readiness; Personal Finance; Workplace Safety; and Ag Literacy.
​
Entrepreneurship/Ownership:
The student operates a business that provides goods or services. This will show your financial risks and how to run a company efficiently.
​
Research-- Experimental, Analysis or Invention:
This SAE is about science in agriculture. In this, you will create a scientific experiment about agriculture. This is where you can ask questions and try to innovate new ideas and better knowledge about agriculture.

​
Placement/Internship:
Placement SAE is working for a business. It could be paid or unpaid. The goal is to get students into real-life scenarios and gain real-world experiences.
​
School-Based Enterprise:
School-Based Enterprise SAEs are student-led business enterprises that provide goods or services.
Service Learning:
A service-learning SAE is where a student, or a small team plan, conduct and evaluate a project designed to provide a service to the school, public entities, or the community. The project must provide benefit to an organization, group, or individuals other than just the local FFA Chapter.
